Rules and recommendations
Registration for Amateur Radio Stations (with callsign as username), SWLs or RAE Candidates.
The Ham Radio Swop Shop can be used by anyone free of charge, but you must register beforehand in order to place adverts yourself or to be able to reply to adverts. Without registration, the advertiser's contact details or our contact form will remain invisible, unless a phone number has been voluntarily published.
Important rules for the Ham Radio Swop Shop market:
- Radios may only be sold to ICASA licensed radio amateurs.
- Every entry is welcome, whether you are a private HAM, a trading HAM or a HAM with a commercial business.
- Some contact details, including an approximate location, should be provided for contact purposes.
- Contact to other members is made via the contact form (also for the protection of personal data).
- Your phone number is optional and will only be displayed to registered members.
- If you like your phone number to be visible to the public, you are welcome to include it in your ad text.
- The respective author is solely responsible for the content of his presentation.
- Check and respect the copyright of third party text and photos.
- You can change, delete or archive your own adverts at any time and as often you wish.
- Please remove your adverts as soon as it is no longer relevant.
- If possible, an asking price should be given so that you do not always have to ask for the price.
- No links to websites (e.g. Ebay or your own) may be installed in the advert text.
- Adverts may only be placed ONCE (no repetitions please!), but may be edited as often as required.
- We do not discuss or justify any adverts rejected by us.
In the event that an advert has not been placed online, the advertiser cannot obtain compensation. The suspicion that the rules and recommendations have been violated is sufficient for the administrator to delete an advert. The database of adverts is regarded as intellectual property. It may not be copied or published in other media without the written consent of the admin.
How to protect against scam artists - never think it can not happen to you!
- Don't trust a mobile phone number (phonecall or whatsapp) as numbers often cannot be verified against the person selling/buying.
- Talk with the seller/buyer on the phone and talk specific HAM Radio stuff to get a feeling if he is really the HAM he pretends to be.
- Rather make your first contact via the contact form (email will be sent to the registered email address!) or via regular email.
- HRSS verifies email addresses. If they match with QRZ.com and/or SARL.org.za they get a green mark
! But please double check yourself!
- If you want to buy an item, ask the seller for another photo with a special item on it, like a coffee mug or a note with a date on it. Then you know that the seller really holds the item.
- You can also upload a photo of the item for sale to "Google Images" to search the internet to make sure the image is not taken from another website.
- Do not trust adverts that show the items for sale with pictures from a brochure or catalogue. The seller may not own the item or may be trying to hide its poor condition.
- Be sceptical if an item seems too cheap to be true, and do not rush into a decision just because you are told there are others interested in buying it.
- Always prefer a personal meeting with the seller/buyer and consider a longer drive or another HAM close to the buyer/seller to take a closer look.
- If there is no other way, use Google to find out more about the seller/buyer. The less you find, the more remote he lives, the more sceptical you should be.
There is never a 100% guarantee, but go with your gut and let a deal fall through rather than taking the risk...
Verified members
Members with a green are verified members. The registration email address is checked against the ones on QRZ.com and SARL.org.za or I know the HAMs personally. If there is no green check mark, it means that the email address could not be found on those sites, not that the member is not trustworthy! However, there is never a 100% guarantee that the person speaking is the actual owner of the product being sold.
Photos in adverts
You may only post your own photos and graphics for which you hold the copyright. All photos remain the unrestricted property of the author.
Formulations
The title of the advert should be as descriptive as possible. The actual advert should be formulated as precisely as possible. If, in your opinion, adverts by other members violate the terms of use, you can report them to the administrator using the "Report Abuse" button, which can be found below each posting.
E-Mail address
A valid email address is required for membership. Email addresses are not visible to other members to avoid SPAM and ensure privacy. However, the Email address is required so that you can receive emails and notifications.
Content of postings
The members grants the Ham Radio Swop Shop administrator a temporally unlimited, irrevocable and simple right of use of his publications on the Swop Shop and the public domain. There is no right to the preservation of certain content; the administration determines what may be preserved. Swop Shop publications or other content that violates the rules and recommendations will be deleted irrevocably and without warning. All postings created are voluntarily made available to the Ham Radio Swop Shop.
Violations of our rules
Anyone who repeatedly and wilfully violates these rules must expect to be excluded from Ham Radio Swop Shops temporarily or for life. Posts that repeatedly violate these rules may be deleted without comment.
